Der Berliner Politologe Elmar Altvater war über Jahrzehnte einer der einflussreichsten Theoretiker und Analysten der unabhängigen Linken. Seine Veröffentlichung 1996 mit Birgit Mahnkopf "Grenzen der Globalisierung. Ökonomie, Ökologie und Politik in der Weltgesellschaft." gilt bis heute als einflussreiches Standartwerk zur wirtschaftlichen Globalisierung. Es wurde in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt. Aus Elmar Altvaters Forderung nach einer "solidarischen Gesellschaft" erklärt sich sein politisches Engagement. Neben seiner Lehrtätigkeit am Otto-Suhr Institut in Berlin war er unter anderem Gründungsmitglied des Berliner "Instituts Solidarische Moderne". His 1996 publication with Birgit Mahnkopf ‘Limits og Globalisation. Economy, ecology and politics in world society.’ is still considered an influential standard work on economic globalisation. Die 1949 in Kairo geborene Salwa Bakr gehört einer Generation Literat:innen an, die eine feministische Perspektive unabhängig von politischen Ideologien einnimmt. Schwerpunkt ihrer in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzten Erzählungen ist die Lebenswirklichkeit von einfachen Frauen in einem bis in die Gegenwart chauvinistischen Umfeld. Themen sind Zwangsscheidungen, Beschneidung von Mädchen und Sexualität. Das Gespräch wurde 1996 in Kairo geführt.

Er war neben dem amerikanischen Philosophen Michael Walzer der wichtigste Verteter des "Kommunitarismus". Sein Buch "Jihad versus Mc World - Coca Cola und Heiliger Krieg" gilt als eines der einflußreichsten Veröffentlichungen im späten 20. Jahrhundert. Sein öffentliches Engagement galt der direkten Demokratie und wendete sich gegen einen sinnentleerten, destruktiven Kaspitalismus, gegen autoritäre repräsentative Demokratien und gegen rechten Tribalismus, den Rechtsradikale, "Reichsbürger" und islamische Fundamentalisten gleichermaßen vertreten. Benjamin R. Barber studierte am Albert Schweizer College in Graubünden in der Schweiz. Dieses Gespräch wurde 2010 in deutscher Sprache 2010 geführt.

Barber was a proponent of direct democracy and, alongside the American philosopher Michael Walzer, the most important proponent of “communitarianism”. His book “Jihad versus Mc World - Coca Cola and Holy War” is considered one of the most influential publications of the late 20th century. His public commitment was to direct democracy and turned against a meaningless, destructive caspitalism, against authoritarian representative democracies and against right-wing tribalism, which is represented by right-wing extremists, “Reich citizens” and Islamic fundamentalists alike. Benjamin R. Barber studied at the Albert Schweizer College in Graubünden, Switzerland, which is why this interview was also conducted in German in 2010.

The interview with Ravi Chopra focusses on deforestation, water management and road construction in the Indian Himalayas. It was recorded in 2016.
