Devi verfasste zahllose Romane, Erzählungen und Kurzgeschichten, alle in begalischer Sprache. Devi gilt bis heute als bedeutenste bengalische Schriftstellerin. Daneben war die 1926 in Dhaka geborene Mahasweta Devi eine indienweit bekannte Aktivistin für die Rechte der Adivasi, der indischen Ureinwohner und der Angehörigen der so genannten "non registered tribes." Er prägte als Wirtschaftswissenschaftler Begriffe wie ”Eurozentrismus” und war bedeutender Veretreter von ”Dependenz-” und ”Weltsystemtheorie”. Er wurde in Kairo geboren und studierte 1947-57 in Paris. Seine Kapitalismuskritik fusste seit der Entkolonisierung der 50er und 60er Jahre auf der globalen Perspektive. Bis in die Gegenwart ist der ”ungleiche Austausch” von Rohstoffen, Waren und Arbeitskräften Grundlage des ”globalen Wertgesetzes”.

As an economist, he coined terms such as “Eurocentrism” and was an important representative of “dependency” and “world system theory”. He was born in Cairo and studied in Paris 1947-57. Since the decolonization of the 1950s and 1960s, his criticism of capitalism has been based on a global perspective. To this day, the “unequal exchange” of raw materials, goods and labor is the basis of the “global law of value”.

Dort unterhielt die Trägerin des Alternativen Nobelpreises 2014 eine Anwaltspraxis. Es war die erste Anwaltspraxis von Frauen in Pakistan. Sie bekämpfte ”Ehrenmorde” an Frauen, geheime Hinrichtungen durch die pakistanische Armee und verteidigte vergewaltigte Frauen, die des ”Ehebruchs” angeklagt waren. Das Gespräch geht der Frage der Auswirkungen der neokolonialen Globalisierungen in Südasien nach und wurde 2003 in Mumbai - Indien aufgezeichnet./🎓 Michael Briefs in conversation with Asma Jilani Jahangir (1952-2018) Asma Jilani Jahangir lived and worked in Lohare in Pakistan. Das IRR gibt bis heute eine der global einflussreichsten antirassistischen Zeitschriften mit dem Titel „Race & Class“ heraus. Das Gespräch mit dem Sri Lanka geborenen Amalavaner Sivanandan dreht es sich darum, wie Großbritannien sich zu einem Land mit fest verankertem strukturellen Rassismus, politisch in der Konservativen Partei, entwickelte. The IRR still publishes one of the world’s most influential anti-racist journals, ”Race & Class”. The conversation with Sri Lankan-born Amalavan Sivanandan centres on how the UK has become a country with entrenched structural racism, politically within the Conservative Party. Britain’s institutionalised racism has become a ”role model” for right-wing and radical right-wing parties in the rest of Europe, for example when it comes to the issue of migration and asylum.
