🎓 Christoph Burgmer im Gespräch mit Stuart Hall (1932-2014). Der Kulturtheoretiker, Soziologe und Marxist Stuart Hall ist einer der bedeutensten Denker am Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts. Er gilt als Erfinder des Begriffs ”Thacherismus” und als Begründer der ”Cultural Studies” beschäftigte er sich mit Fragen von Kultur, Macht und Identitäten. Stuart Hall hat zwar 17 Ehrendoktortitel, selbst jedoch nie promoviert. Er war 1960 Gründungsmitglied und Herausgeber der New Left Review, von 1969 bis 1978 Direktor des ”Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies” an der Unversität Birmingham und unterrichtete später an der 1969 gegründeten Open Univercity mit Sitz in Milton Keynes nördlich von London, der größten Universität Großbritanniens. The cultural theorist, sociologist and Marxist Stuart Hall is one of the most important thinkers at the beginning of the 21st century. He is regarded as the inventor of the term ‘Thacherism’ and as the founder of ‘Cultural Studies’, he dealt with questions of culture, power and identities. Although Stuart Hall has 17 honorary doctorates, he himself never completed a doctorate. He was a founding member and editor of the New Left Review in 1960, director of the Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies at the University of Birmingham from 1969 to 1978 and later taught at the Open University, founded in 1969 and based in Milton Keynes north of London, the largest university in the UK. 🎓Christoph Burgmer im Gespräch mit Ambalavaner Sivanandan.(1923-2018). Ambalavaner Sivanandan leitete ab 1972 zusammen mit den Mitarbeitern das Londoner „Institut of Race Relations“. Das IRR gibt bis heute eine der global einflussreichsten antirassistischen Zeitschriften mit dem Titel „Race & Class“ heraus. Das Gespräch mit dem Sri Lanka geborenen Amalavaner Sivanandan dreht es sich darum, wie Großbritannien sich zu einem Land mit fest verankertem strukturellen Rassismus, politisch in der Konservativen Partei, entwickelte. So hat der institutionalisierte Rassismus Großbritanniens „Vorbildfunktion“ für rechte und rechtsradikale Parteien im übrigen Europa erlangt, zum Beispiel wenn es um die Frage von Migration und Asyl geht. /🎓 Christoph Burgmer in conversation with Ambalavaner Sivanandan (2023-2018). Ambalavaner Sivanandan ran the London-based Institute of Race Relations together with his colleagues from 1972. The IRR still publishes one of the world’s most influential anti-racist journals, ”Race & Class”. The conversation with Sri Lankan-born Amalavan Sivanandan centres on how the UK has become a country with entrenched structural racism, politically within the Conservative Party. Britain’s institutionalised racism has become a ”role model” for right-wing and radical right-wing parties in the rest of Europe, for example when it comes to the issue of migration and asylum.

Jahrhundert leitete er das Institut of Race Relations in London. Es ist der älteste anti-rassistische "think tank" der Welt. Die Zeitschrift "Race & Class" erscheint bis heute vierteljährlich.
