Er wurde 1923 in Berlin geboren, floh mit seinen Eltern vor den Nationalsozialisten und lebte und arbeitete über 40 Jahre in den USA. Ende der 70er Jahre siedelte er über nach Zürich, wo er 2015 verstarb.

Nach der Befreiung vom Nationalsozialismus wuchs er in Südtüringen auf und lebte nach dem Ende der DDR in Leimen bei Heidelberg. Harald Gerlach leuchtet im Gespräch deutsch-deutsche Befindlichkeiten aus, wie sie bis in die Gegenwart noch populistisch instrumentalisiert werden./🎓 Christoph Burgmer in conversation with the poet and novelist Harald Gerlach (1940-2001). Harald Gerlach was a German poet and writer. His family came from Upper Silesia. After the liberation from National Socialism, he grew up in southern Thuringia and lived in Leimen near Heidelberg after the end of the GDR. In conversation, Harald Gerlach sheds light on German-German sensitivities and how they are still being instrumentalised for populist purposes to this day.
